The Band
Can I hear the band play live?
Most functions that the band appear at are private events, which are usually not open to visitors. However, The Tatties regularly provide "Showcase Events" to hear the band play live. Contact the band HERE to find out more.
What equipment does the band have?
The Tatties have all the equipment needed to deliver a professional and exciting event, including full stage lighting, disco lighting and a powerful PA System more than capable for most of the biggest venues in Scotland.
Does the band have regular musicians?
The Tatties is always the same line up. In the event that a substitute is required, substitutes will be made close freinds of the band and will be rehearsed prior to the performance.
The Venue
How far will the band travel?
The Tatties are Glasgow based and will play approximately up to 1 hour away from the City Centre. However, the band have played in England, Ireland and as far north as the Outer Hebrides. The band will normally travel to most locations if asked prior to the event.
I am having a marquee event, what power requirements does the band have?
You should discuss with your venue/organiser what previous arrangements have been in place to see if they are used to live bands performing. Make sure that the load is 32amps or more and that it is evenly distributed between 2 or 4 240v supplies.
The venue has a sound limiter, can the band still perform?
Many venues now install various types of equipment that will monitor the sound levels of any live entertainment to keep noise disturbance to a minimum. These have been forced upon many venues and usually do not cause a problem. However, if your venue has one installed you should notify the band to make sure any necessary preventative measures can be taken.
The stage is quite small, will the band fit?
If you are worried about the size of the stage available you should discuss this with the band. Generally speaking the band will be able to fit onto most stages/areas with the 5 piece band requiring a space of about 12 foot wide or more.
The venue requires public liability insurance, is the band insured?
If your venue has any specific requirements for insurance purposes you should discuss this with the band. The band is insured for Public Liability, however it is requested that all guests should stay clear of the stage/performance area to prevent accidents around electrical equipment.
Performance
What time will the band arrive at?
The earliest that the band will arrive is 7pm, or approximately 1 hour before the scheduled start time. If you have any special requirements, you should discuss this with the band.
How long will it take the band to set up?
The set up time of the band can vary depending on the size of band and the layout/size of the venue. It is generally acceptable to allow 1 hour for set up time. It is important to bear in mind that the 5 Piece Band is a much larger band with a larger sound system that inevitably takes time to set up, which should be taken into consideration.
What will the band wear?
The band will normally dress appropriately in suit trousers and open collar shirt.
I don't want ceilidh all night, can the band do this?
The 5 Piece Function Band offers an alternative to ceilidh and can provide live music that will suit the guests attending your function to keep as many guests up dancing as possible. Alternatvely, the 3 Piece Band also includes a disco option to help break up the evening.
Will the band provide a disco/DJ?
A disco option is provided with both the 3 Piece Band and the 5 Piece Function Band. At any time that the band is not performing, suitable music will be provided unless requested not to.
Will someone "call" the dances?
The Tatties will make sure that everyone at your event fully understands how to take part in the event by "calling" all of the dances in simple, easy to understand instructions. The bands experience of playing for plenty of Scots, loads of English and Americans, Canadians and even Australians will make sure that there are 'no excuses' for not taking part!
What time will the band perform until?
The latest that the band will perform until is 1am. If you have any special requirements, you should discuss this with the band.
Set List
Will the band learn a "First Dance"?
If you are having a first dance, remember that only the 5 Piece Function Band will be able to perform a first dance live, all other options will usually play the first dance from a cd. If you give the band plenty of notice prior to your event a First Dance song and at least one other song will normally be learned.
Will the band take requests?
The Tatties will always aim to take requests from event organisers or guests present at the event. The 5 Piece Function Band may be limited to songs included on the setlist if asked on the night of the event, however if prior notice is given the band will try to learn any new material requested. To see the current set list click here. If you opt for a DJ/Disco option the band will take requests prior or on the night of your event. If your guests are 'ceilidh enthusiasts' the band will even take requests for ceilidh dances.
